The bar we set.
Don't let your ambitions outpace your actions.
Ambition is a doubled-edged sword.
It can be simultaneously our inspiration and our frustration.
We’re inspired to funnel our ambition into a constructive outlet.
Yet we’re frustrated if our lives aren’t living up to the bar our ambitions have set.
The problem?
Our ambition isn’t what actually sets our bar.
Our actions do.
We can never outpace our own actions.
There is no improving our health without getting off the couch, no matter what our ambitions are.
There is no improving our mindset without training the mind, no matter what our ambitions are.
There is no improving our relationships without the courage to be open and candid with those we’re closest to, no matter what our ambitions are.
There is no improving our craft and career without the endless hours spent learning and practicing said craft, no matter what our ambitions are.
Ambition is good, and useful. But it’s not a proxy for where we’re headed.
What we do tells us where we’re going.
Our actions set our bar.
